One. I am an adult. As shocking as that seems to some of you, it is true. I know, I know. You're all thinking "How in the hell did God let that happen?" Well, it did. Interestingly enough, I personally don't feel like I've changed all that much from this year to last year. I'm the same old Mandy that we've always known, just a year older. No big deal. Anyway, with my adult status, I have noticed how people still second guess my decisions that I make for my life. It's not like I'm still not a legal adult and I have to have parental/gardian approval for quite a lot of things. I can do what I want, generally speaking, and the only people who I really have to answer to are my self, the law and God. Personally, I think that I am a responsable, level headed, intelligent adult who is fully capable of making her own decisions and I don't need people to second guess me and make sure that I'm doing the right thing and that I've thought about all my options. I know what I need to do for me and I've thought about how that will effect myself, others, and my relationship with them. I don't need to be questioned; I need to be supported. Two: it is really difficult to leave a place that you've made your home and established yourself in. I have a home and a family here at Queens. We are supportive of each other, and keep one another in check. We have no problem of telling someone they're doing something stupid. And certainly there are people here who are more mature and wise than others, and there are some who are more innocent and niaeve. It's pretty awsome to have such a great community floor where everybody talks to one another and cares for one another and feels welcome in their rooms. I don't really want to leave it. I live here with all these other people, and my friend/family unit of sorts. It's rather dificult to know that you've got to leave all of this wonderfulness of love, care and support. I know, the thought from all of you guys is "but THIS is your home. WE'RE your family." And that is true, I am related to you by either blood or marriage, and I do have a room and food and I am welcome, but family is a support system. It's a network, a connection, between a group of people who love and care for one another, and will call some of its members out when they're being stupid, unwise, assholes. If there's anything I've learned from all of you, it's that. You don't really need to have any sort of blood or legal connection for that, just some sort of connection. Here at Queens with my group, ours is that we were all stuck together in Albright and we're freshman and new to this whole thing. This is something that I don't want to leave.

Murphy's Law

I'm assuming that you all know Murphy's Law: what could go wrong will. Well, everybody knows that one person who this applies to: everything bad imaginable happens to this person. Well, if you didn't think that you knew a person like this, you do now. It's me. And now you're all asking yourselves "What is she talking about?" Ok, so story-time.

It's Friday, and I get back to campus after watching Luke and go see the Vagina Monologues and I get flowers for no apparent reason. (Everything is going great so far....or so you think.) Well, in the middle of all this happyness I lose my phone. I cannot find my phone. Why? Oh, just because it was on vibrate AND had a low battery. By now, it is dead. And even if it wasn't, I couldn't hear it if I called it. So now I am phoneless, which means I am brainless and not connected. I feel naked...ok not really, but you get the picture.

So, Murphy's Law. All these amazing things happen, but you lose your phone. You lose your phone and it's on vibrate. You lose your phone and it's almost dead. Um....I have got a part in the next play that's comming up. The play is Black Comedy and I am Harold. Well...we're changing the character's name to Helen. It is a native of the American West, and the natives referred to it as a deerbunny. It is a hybrid of either an antelope and a species of killer rabbit or a pygmy-deer and killer rabbit. There is a flying version of this creature that can be found only in Wall, South Dakota. They are extremely smart and extremely rare, which explains why very little is truly known about these creatures and why very few have been captured.

Jackalope milk can be used for many medicinal purposes and as an aphrodisiac. The milk comes out already homogenized because of the powerful jumping capabilities that this creature has. Females can be milked while they are asleep, but this is strongly discouraged. These creatures are extremely shy, but once approached they become a dangerous killing machine.

The jackalope is so rare because they only breed during electrical storms that include hail. Also, very few have ever been captured because they can imitate many sounds, including that of the human voice. When being chased, they elude their captors by saying things like "That way!" and "Over there!" However, capture of these creatures is made easier if a flask of whiskey is placed outside at night. The jackalope has an extreme fondness for this drink, and after drinking it will become extremely intoxicated and move much slower.

Jackalope hunting is allowed in Douglas, Wyoming after the purchase of a special hunting license. The official season for hunting the Jackalope is between the hours of midnight and two am on June 31. The few who have caught a jackalope report that the meat has a similar taste to that of lobster.

This was your Zoology lesson with Mandy.

Sunny April Days...in February

The past two days here have been absolutely amazingly beautiful. Temperature up in the mid sixties to low seventies, perfect weather for dresses and shorts and being outside...and IT'S FEBRUARY!!!

Yesterday Joel and I went and took a walk in the park. It was quite fun...until we saw two girls around the age of 12 who looked like prosti-tots. It made me sad....and throw up a little in my mouth. Honestly, why do mothers let their young girls dress like hookers? Seriously, I don't get it. Why would you want to be out in public with your 12 year old daughter and have some 40 year old man come up to her and ask her how much it would be for a night? Come on! Why would you do that? People really make me sick. *vomit goes here*

On a much better, non-slut note, today was even more so enjoyable. I got to sit outside in the residence quad with Sam, Kathleen, Rochelle, Emily and Elisabeth and study. Well, it was actually more laughing and talking and coloring than studying, but it was still fun. It was also much better because there were no prosti-tots seen today.

It's still such a nice evening that I currently have my window open enjoying the occasional nice breeze that floats through the opening and blows my curtain. It makes me smile, a lot.

Snow

It is currently 1:42 am, and here in Charlotte it is snowing. That's right guys, snow. No, seriously, I'm talking about the flaky white stuff that falls from the sky when it's cold. You know, frozen yet soft precipitation? It's sticking to the ground...well, the grass, trees, cars, cement benches and walls, roofs, gravel.....so far everything but the roads. As you all can guess, I am really hoping that it does stick to the roads. Why, you may ask. Because, sillies, that means that classes are canceled and we have yet another SNOW DAY!!! The days that all students from kindergarten to senior in college alike look forward to. And since I am in Charlotte, and they are much like Georgia here one single snow flake means that everything shuts down and people run out to the stores to buy up milk and bread.

On that note, why do people stock up on milk and bread when it snows? I mean, are milk sandwiches really going to save you in a blizzard? And did you know that before a hurricane makes landfall people stock up on plywood (as can be expected) and POP-TARTS! Why? I have no clue. I guess if they run out of plywood, they can finish boarding up their windows with pop-tarts.

Anyhow.....back to the fact that it's snowing here. It's so beautiful. I'm looking out my window right now and I can see these huge flakes falling and swirling in the cold air right before they hit the ground. It is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen.

For future reference...I love snow. Specifically one that my boyfriend left on my roommate's white board.

Back story: Joel and I entered my room, and soon after Laura entered. She looked a little shocked and shaken and kind of like she had a bad day. Well, after speaking with her for a brief moment (I never did figure out what it was that was bothering her) Joel and I left my room after I grabbed what ever it was that I was in need of. Upon the exit of my room, Joel wrote something on Laura's white board that is on our door. It read:

"If you're having a bad day, just think about how ugly the platypus is.
Joel"

So, after thinking on this, I have realized that this is true. Not only will the sight of the platypus make you giggle...a lot...but also just think of the plight it has to go through every day. Honestly, think about how bad it must suck if you were one of nature's ugliest creatures ever. In comparison, you're probably better off then the platypus on any day. (Unless your dog dies, your spouse leaves you, you get hit by a car, and you loose all your belongings in a house fire.) And not only is it one of the ugliest, but it's nature's hodgepodge of parts!

So, if you are having a bad day, take Joel's advice, think about how ugly the platypus is.

And here is a platypus for you to reference....

(I have nothing against the platypus....I promise.)

Mail Time!!!!

So...I just got back from checking my mail, and I must say I got a lovely suprise. I ACTUALLY HAD MAIL!!! A card, a simple, lonely, kindly sent card. At this point in time, Joel and I were rather hungry from the factors of studying/doing tons homework and the fact that for the past few days the food in the caff hasn't been so good. So, I suddenly come up with a bright idea. I turn to Joel after a pause that followed his complaints of extreme hunger and exclaim, "I have a cheesecake in my freezer!!!" At this point we (meaning I) pull the cheesecake out, unwrap it, defrost it, cut it and serve it. I cut my piece and suddenly remember that along with a cheesecake, I brought back topping to go on it. Like any sensible person, I pull it out. I make a few attempts to open it, but fail epically, so Joel, being the nice and kind person that he is, takes it from me and opens it.

Apparently, I had started to grow a relatively large miniature planet in there, and after opening it, the small mold creatures think that Joel is their god. I promptly, removed the once-cheesecake-topping-now-large-micro-planet from Joel and threw it away in the trash room. I refuse to harbor small ecosystems in my fridge.

Speaking of small ecosystems...I am not opposed to harboring them elsewhere in my room. (No Sherry and Robin, I do not have mold growing under my bed or in my sock drawer.) I have a fish tank. Yes, that is correct, a fish tank. (And yes it is actually set up and working properly and is not taking up space like the one that sat in the back of my car for a good portion of my senior year.) In this tank there are two fan-tailed goldfish named Benedick and Beatrice and a small fully aquatic frog named Leonato. Yes, I am that big of a nerd to name my pets after characters from Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing.

I do know for a fact that the fish and fully aquatic frog are allowed in my dorm, but I'm not quite sure about the large micro-planet...which is also a contributing factor to why I threw it away. That, and 1.) I found it kind of icky. 2.) I don't think that my roommate would appreciate it, and 3.) there was a fear that the large micro-planet might grow large enough to develop an army and nuclear technology, which would be bad. Very bad. Very very very bad. I don't want a war to break out in my fridge between the fruit topping planet and the bottled water.

So, in short, I accidentally grew a large micro-planet in my fridge, in which the mold creatures thought that Joel was their god, and I have a fish tank complete with two fish and a frog. Yay for in-dorm ecosystems, either accidental or intentional, benign or potently tyrannical.

New New New

Well, it's a new year, and a new semester with new classes full of new people. I must say that so far I am enjoying my classes; even though I've only been to three of the five. Unfortunatly in each of my three classes there is a shmuck. My English class, my Core class...all though Joel is in there to save me from death of the shmuck....or rather save him from being beaten to death by me. In second case, Joel would just watch me beat Ross down...oops. Ross is also unfortunatly in my English class. Please, somebody save me. And to further my three days a week with shmucks....the only male in Cover of Life is in my theatre class. I think I may end up shooting somebody......or at least beating someone down with a high heeled shoe. Oh well, at least things will be interesting this semester.

The Close of A Semester

Well, the semester is drawing to a close and I have managed to find some time to pull myself away from my studies to update you all as to what is going on here. Well, Thanksgiving break was a ball. I truly enjoyed getting to see all of you. (Oh and by the way Robin, I missed seeing you.) I've just recently gotten my glasses and I got my nose pierced. Yes, I now have a "shiney booger". Joel (Sprinkles) and I went and got it done....well, he didn't get his nose pierced, I did. He went with me. Anyhow, it looks really good. I have a few finals and quite a few papers that I have had due, and I still have some left as well. I recently filmed a video for my final project in my honor's class. It was on the black plague striking my building, and it is quite humorous and good in the aweful-home-video kind of way. I've recently been sick, but I am better now. My friends love me because they took quite good care of me. Joel would not let me leave my room for any reasons that were not necessary, and Brad, a hallmate, gave Joel some ni'quill to give to me so I could sleep. And there was the time when I fell out of my bed sick, and my roommate Laura and my friend Samantha picked me up and put me back in bed. So, see family I am well taken care of and cared for here. We've become one big family.

Here's the nose piercing. Right now I am working on getting everything ready for the end of the semester with finals and final projects and papers and what have you. I also now have a job that I has been thrown into the mix that is called my life. School is of utmost importance to me. Now, if there are anymore complaints about my lack of updates please feel free to stick them in the trash or in your own eye.

~Management

Life and LIFE

Well, as you can imagine I have been extremely busy. I had a blast. I got so many compliments on my dress and hair. I looked like Marilyn Monroe. Plan and simple. Well, The Cover of Life went quite well. The show was a blast and went wonderful. Four shows over four days and three bouquets of flowers. My room indeed does smell pretty now. After the last show we had to strike the set and of course I commandeered Joel and he helped too. The reason that I didn't was because there wasn't much to share and I was waiting for Halloween so I could tell you all about the amazing awesome costume party. Well, let's see where to start...hmm..... Ok, yesterday I was pretty much the full time employed hair and make-up artist for my friends (pretty much all of 2nd floor Albright). Anywho, I did my hair first at about 1:00 or so, then I helped Toni with her hair and make up. That was followed by doing Rochelle's hair and make up. (She was a fairy). Followed by me doing Brad's scars, he was the Joker. Then I attached Curtis's elf ears, then I did Elisabeth's cat make up, and finally I did Joel's Captain Jack Sparrow make up. I was up to my elbows in assignments. Needless to say, everyone looked fantastic. So fantastic in fact that at the costume party 2nd floor Albright swept the costume contest. There were two catagories: Best Male Costume and Best Female Costume. Brad won best male and I won best female costume. That's right Belle from Beauty and the Beast won. And yes, I looked like Belle. Since I did Brad's scars and stuff it's pretty much like I won twice. Ok, picture time!

Look! I'm talking about weird, crazy, random odd and slightly scary things happen on my floor, and since I'm in a sharing mood I think I'll give you guys just a small glimpse at what really goes on here. Keep in mind that this is mostly only things that have happened after fall break, with one event that has happened before it.

A few days ago, my dear friends Kathleen, Sam and Emily were playing hockey....inside....on our hall....with brooms, a lacrosse stick and a tennis ball. I joined in to help Kathleen. My weapon: a dustpan. Needless to say, Kathleen and I lost.

This is Sam and I. Laura took the picture. It looks like I'm pulling snot out of my nose, but it's not snot. It's just fake spiderweb. Getting the picture?

These are some of my neighbors, Anneka and Mary. For Anneka's birthday (which happened before fall break), Mary (her roommate and one of the RA's), decided to fill their room with balloons. This is a picture of the plan having been fulfilled. Now you're wondering how did we get all the balloons in there. We, meaning Mary, Laura and I, blew them up a few days in advance. Where did we store them? My room.

This is my other RA, Niran.

This is a squirrel.

These two pictures are connected. That lovely little critter was inside our building. That's right, there was a squirrel inside Albright. Well, some people had chased it and cornered it in some one's room and had Niran catch it and take it outside. The next day the same squirrel was back inside the building and in some one's room. Niran went to go catch it again to repeat the process. Well this time, the squirrel bit him and held on. Niran still got the squirrel out of the building, but he also had to go to the hospital and get a rabies shot. Niran was at the hospital from 7pm the evening to 6am the next morning.

And that my dears, is what happens here. Hall Hockey to fake snot to rooms filled with balloons to capture the squirrel to rabies shots. There is never a dull moment when your hall is filled with a bunch of crazies.

Fall Break

Well, fall break has come and gone for me. Maybe it's because for some odd reason my crazy sense of humor and anti-seriousness and A.D.D. keep everything together, or maybe everything was falling down and I just didn't realize it because I was an insider. And we all know that an insider can't see what's going because they are caught up in playing their part. Hmm.....so either a.) my leaving was a result in taking the key stone out of this proverbial archway so it falls or b.) my leaving was well timed to get me out of this brewing and bubbling craziness, discord and chaos....you have just got to love those light bulb moments. In other news, the latest paper that I did for my CORE class got the grade of a B+ and we just finished watching the movie TOMBSTONE in my English class. Great quote from that movie is...."I've got two guns: one for each of you" said by Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday.

Halloween Spirit

As we all know it is the lovely month of October, and at the end of this month is the holdiday that I live for each year.....HALLOWEEN!!! The only day when I get to dress up and act like somebody else all day and it's perfectly normal. Well, here in Albright, we're having a door decorating contest. So, of course I am going pretty far out there for it, along with my friend Amanda who lives at the other end of the hall. It simply started out as a trip to Target to get a few things that were needed around the dorm, and it turned into a door decorating trip. We've simply decided that since we've helped each other decorate our doors, that when one of us wins we'll split the prize. Here....there are pictures too.

Amanda and Kathleen and the skeleton prisioner across from Amanda's door.

Amanda hanging lights around her door.

Me hanging lights around my door.

Joel (who was commendeered and forced to help against his will) putting up the scary wall cling of the skeleton comming out of the wall with an axe. This weekend in my building we're playing a game called Zombie Wars. Pretty much, if you get tagged with a spoon by a zombie (somebody wearing red) then you're a zombie too. The object: don't get zombie-i-fied. If your a zombie, the object: zombie-i-fy as many people as possible. I am not playing, because I am just too cool. Actually, I thought that the Albright Epidemic was going to be effecting me this weekend, but apparently it's not. Anyhow....what have I been up to at college you might ask? Well, there's always the tree climbing, sprinkler running, and tag playing all at midnight or so. Oh might I add that I kick butt at all of that. I am a beast. My friend, Joel....aka Hobo Joel or Sprinkles, is one of the people that I've commandeered for this. Other people occasionally go along with this commandeering, but sometimes they are just bupkisses and decide not to play along with the fun games. Well anyhow, I am a beast at climbing/shimming up trees on campus. This has been proven and there are several witnesses to this....including the campus police. Apparently tree climbing at 12:30 at night is a suspicious activity.

Albright Epidemic

There's an epidemic sweeping my building, and everybody who's gotten it has gotten sick. That means one of two things: either A.) I did really well or B.) I failed horribly. Way to go 50/50 chances! I would like to thank Rachael for the banner. I think it's adorable. Well, I've been busy. I've had to go to rehearsals, and study for my Core test tomorrow, and memorize lines, and I've also learned how to play a song on the piano. YAY! Mandy is finally acomplishing something here on her list of things to learn. Piano. Life up here is pretty much normal. And exciting news for you all, I'm going to be coming home next month for fall break. One thing that I've noticed here at college is that all the people that I'm friends with here remind me of people that I was friends with back home. It's wierd because they'll say something and I'll accidently call them by the name of the person that they remind me of. It's pretty funny. It is 1:18 at this very moment and I am just going to vent here to you guys. So, I get on Facebook about twenty minutes ago and my friend Kelly, who is a doll, messages me "Can I ask you some questions!!!" I respond with "Shoot." I have nothing to hide, and I'm thinking that it's some poll thing that she has to do for some class. (Back story/side note here: Kelly goes to Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, and that's where Jeffery, Chelsea's ex, goes. Trust me, this all comes into play.) Kelly proceeds to ask me if I've been smoking weed and stuff. Well, you guys know me pretty damn well to know that the answer to that is no, so of course I tell her the truth. I also ask why; I mean, I'm kind of curious to this question's origin. She proceeds to tell me that Jeffery has been saying shit about how I'VE been smoking weed and doing all this other shit. (What this "other shit" is, I have no idea. Kelly being the good friend she is didn't elaborate on it.) You guys know what happened this summer. Of course, you all were there. So now Jeffery's being a dick face and is spreading these bullshit rumors about me and how I'm doing drugs and God only knows what else. I'm pretty pissed off. I haven't spoken a single word to him this summer and now he's spreading all these bullshit rumors about me. And I swear, if I see him or hear any more of this shit that he's been saying then I'm going to track him down like the dog he is and kick his ass! And I will be more than happy to get a drug test done for him just to prove that he's acting like the lying dog he is.

College Life Back to Normal...err....

College life, normal? Well, everything's back to as normal as it gets around here. Nerf gun wars/modifications, ninja fights, pillow fights, study parties, slumber parties, and yes class. Family Weekend is over. Sherry and Elden and everybody else's parents have gone home. This weekend; however, was fun. Yes, I just said that spending a weekend with Sherry in MY territory was fun. Mostly because I know all the stuff about this area and SHE DOESN'T. Anyhow, I had fun. Now, it's shout out time to those of you back home. Jenn, thanks SOOOO much for the pies. I love them....and so does everybody else. Rachael, sorry I'm not there to help baby-proof. Angela, you pies are still better than Jenn's. Sorry Jenn, but it's the truth and I tell it like I see it. Robin, you and Randy should have come up to visit this weekend. I am very dissapointed in you. And lastly, a BIG thank you to Sherry and Elden for the new clothes and shoes and mostly just putting up with me this weekend. This weekend was really fun. After Sherry and Elden left Laura, her mom and I went to South Park mall and just goofed off. Laura mostly wanted to go so she could get some ideas for a dress for Casino Night, so Laura and I tried on pretty fancy dresses just for fun. YAY DRESS UP! Anyhow that about sums it up for this LOVELY weekend here at Queens. Now...it's off to play....err.....study.

Yo ho ho....and a bottle of rum

Today is probably one of the best holidays ever, right next to Halloween, Christmas and my birthday. It's.....drum roll please, or rather cannon shots,.....INTERNATIONAL TALK LIKE A PIRATE DAY!!! Yes children, that's right, international talk like a pirate day. And now you're wondering what this lovely day implies, right? Well, it's simple; today is the day where you get to talk like a pirate all day and it's considered perfectly normal. Unless you are a pirate, then talking like one is just normal for you everyday. And what's even better is today if you really want to you can even dress up like one too! And shoot people!....wait.....scratch that. No shooting people. That's illegal all the time. Nevermind. Unless it's with a nerf gun...that's ok. So yes, today is international talk like a pirate day AND the first day of family weekend. This could be quite fun. Has it really only been a month? I mean, it feels like I've been living here for, like, ever. Ok, only if you forget about the fact that I don't know any of the streets or anything like that. To explain, my family is going to come up here, poke around, ask me fifty million questions, lecture me, and in short bother me and possibly drive me crazy. *sigh* Well, I guess I might as well prepare myself some how.....I don't think that bullet proof vests would do me any good though; however, I do have a nerf gun. I mean L-O-V-E it. I love eating food in general....except some of those icky foods such as beans, peas, and any sort of vegetable that looks like it came out of the back end of a lawn mower. Well, anyhow tonight here at Queens we had international food night sponsored by CUB (that's Campus Union Board, for those of you who don't know what it is). So, basically what went down was we traveled from residence building to residence building and got to eat different foods from around the world. (Each building had a different country.) So pretty much I got to eat Thai food, food from Spain, jambalaya and bread pudding from New Orleans, and food from India. I was in heaven. I have never had so much good food in my life....well, except for when Angela and Jeff are in town and Jeff cooks, but that's a different story. So Robin, I have been trying new things here. I mean, I just took a trip around the world and ate all of this native cuisine.

You would think

You know, you would think that at a college campus, and on a floor with all your friends you couldn't possibly find any time to do your work. Let alone, any time that it would be quite, besides when everybody's alseep. Well, right now it's quiet. It's 8:00 pm and my dorm floor is relativly quiet. I'm begining to get worried...maybe there was a zombie attack or something, or there was a mass memo about fun that was sent out that I didn't get. And you would also think that doing a powerpoint on the Black Plague would be very interesting, well it's not. It's just very tedious. *sigh* Thankfully, if I can get everything to work right Monty Python and the Holy Grail will add in some comedy into this rather depressing presentation.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grbSQ6O6kbs

Too bad everything is moving so slow. Just to let you all know, I'm doing this because there are just so gosh darn many of you, and I can't call ALL of you on Thursdays. I mean, I do have a life here and have fun to do.....I mean.....homework. This way you guys can keep up with me the same way I keep up with you. Through the internet! Oh the wonders of technology in the global age. Anyhow, now you guys can know what I'm up to here at Queen's, without having to hear it second hand and all that jazz. You can just read it here. Now, I know, it's nothing like hearing me explain it and act it all out. Well, you can't have your cake and eat it too. Besides, you guys are always checking Rachael's, Angela's and now Jen's blog, so you can just add mine to the list of daily ritual readings. YAY!
